Most of you know that we went up to NYC this weekend. We primarily went up to get the car fixed, but Mom and Dad took us out to dinner . Of course I can’t remember the name of the restaurant but it’s in Astoria and was a fabulous Italian restaurant. But of course our day had to be more interesting than that…So we go into the city on Saturday to meet up with Sunny and Paul. I’ll put up some pictures in the gallery somewhere. It was a very rainy day. We went out and had lunch at Applebee’s, which was pleasant. We decided to go down to K-town to have coffee and dessert. It was rather cold in there and we were pretty wet. We had our dessert and tried to make our way over to the Empire State Building. When we got there the security folks there told us that there was zero visibility on the roof. That was kindof a downer, but so be it. We made our way back out into the rain.

As we were walking down the street I was looking for our car. I kept going and going and going, and finally realized that our car was not where we left it. That’s when I looked up and saw a bright red sign that says “No standing. Except Sundays, Except Trucks” AAAHHHH!!!! We must have been towed. I found a cop and got the number for the NYC towing group and we made our way down there to pick up our car.

After an hour and a half in a hot, humid room, and $185 we got our car back. Plus there was ticket for $95. I guess that’ll teach us to read the signs better next time around. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to cut back a little for the next few weeks. Fortunately we were only delayed just enough that we weren’t late for dinner.

So we had an eventful July 4th. We went up to NY to see my dad on Sunday and drove down to Philly to see Sarah’s parents on Monday. We went shopping for supplies on the 4th, and on the way back got into a traffic accident. I probably shouldn’t go into details since, as the TV cop says, “Anything you say, can and will be used against you in a court of law.” Suffice it to say my right passenger door was smashed along with minor damage to the surrounding panels, trim, windows … Good thing is no one was really hurt, some bumps, bruises, and minor cuts.

We drove the car back up to NY for my dad to fix. He ordered all the parts and had them waiting in the shop for the insurance adjuster to show up. He finally came by on a Friday afternoon, and the repairs are getting started. We ended up having a good week with family on an impromptu vacation. It’s been nice working at JHU, everyone was understanding and more than willing to let me have the time off. So now I’m back and driving my mom’s car for a few weeks until we can get back up to NY to pick up the car. Just in case you were wondering, it was Sarah’s nice little sporty car that got hit, and not my old clunker (shucks!)

Hope everyone else had a good vacation. Congratulations to Andrew on the wedding. Sorry we couldn’t be there.
